Girl of Nightmares (Anna #2)

“She crossed over death to call me. I crossed through Hell to find her.”

What’s that? Did I made a pentagram for this book? Nah, it’s just a star, I promise. ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º) Girl of Nightmares is the second and final book of Anna duology by Kendare Blake. The story picks up months after the event in Anna Dressed in Blood. Cas couldn’t move on. He’s seeing Anna everywhere. He see her in his dreams, and sometime he sees him in waking nightmares. But Cas noticed that these aren’t just daydreams. He doesn’t know what happened to Anna, but he knows something is wrong. Now Cas is trying to look for an answer, and he will give everything to returns the favor and make sure that Anna is okay.

This book made me do something that I thought I could never do. Stop rolling my eyes at Cas. If you read my review for Anna Dressed inBlood, you know that even in the end I love Cas, I couldn’t stop rolled my eyes at him. Well, to Cas in this book, I could. Cas has a great amount of character development, and so do his friends, especially Carmel. And I love how Kendare Blake developed their characters so smoothly, so real and didn’t feel forced at all. The only thing that I miss from the first book is Anna and her badass power. But well, story-wise it makes sense that we won’t see more Anna in this book.

The plot in this book is well-thought, though it’s kind of predictable for me. I like how there are much more mysteries unfolding. I like how Blake keep giving me more myth and witchcraft. But one thing that makes me like this book better than the first one is, it does scared me. A bit. Well, only in some parts, but it does its job as a horror book better than the first one. Also, I have to say I also like the humours in this book better. It  gives me that personality that I didn’t see much in Anna Dressed in Blood. Good job!

I have to say that Kendare Blake did clever things with this book, especially with the ending. I mean, I kind of can see that will happen as I read through this book. But, the way Kendare described it was what makes it more beautiful. Another clever thing that Kendare Blake did with her ending was she open an opportunity to continue this story. Though maybe if she decided to do so, it won’t be under Anna’s name again. Kudos to Blake for that, her writings is definitely better than the first book.

In conclusion, this book is great. The ending is so beautiful, and the story is well thought and well written. I guess if you like Anna Dressed in Blood, you will like Girl of Nightmares too. Though it’s not a spooky read, I’m definitely recommending this series. And I can’t wait to read another book by Kendare Blake.
