Dangerous Girls

“Wouldn’t we all look guilty, if someone searched hard enough?”

I’ve got to start this review with cussing, sorry, but HOLY FUCKING HELL!!!! This book, this damn book! I don’t understand why are there so few people talking about this beautiful book? AAARGGHH!!! Okay, I need to calm down and carry on with the review.

I honestly was so lucky I found Dangerous Girls, because I only read this to fulfill the “Murder Mystery Book” category in this year Pop Sugar Reading Challenge. I was not in the mood for that heavy murder mystery that is too complex, so I start looking for YA murder mystery books. And I was picking like about 5 other YA murder mystery books before I found it, because NO ONE I KNOW WAS TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK. LIKE, WHY? This book is so underread, and so beautiful, and I’m so concern that other people won’t know about this book. This book needs more hype!

Dangerous Girls is a YA book, but in my opinion this book might be tip-toeing more into the adult part. This book is basically about Spring Break gone wrong. The main protagonist of this book, Anna, is visiting Aruba with her boyfriend, Tate, her bestfriend, Elise, and the rest of their squad. They’re partying, dancing, drinking, having fun in the beach, you know, all those spring break fun things. Until one day Elise is found brutally murdered in her room, and after some deliberation the police named Anna and Tate as the prime suspects. Then the story sets on how Anna try to find her friend’s killer while she faces her own murder charges. As the story go on we will see how Anna discovers hard truths about people around her, and the complex nature of teenage friendships and love life.

The characters are great, they play their parts perfectly, and their relationships toward each other are described remarkably and fitted so well to the plot. That being said, I need to warned you that they all have unpleasant personality, and there’s only one character that I personally like as a person. The writing of this book is so elegant, deliberate, eloquent and done to perfection. The plot in this book moves quickly by going backward and forwards in time, and not in an orderly manner. I usually don’t really enjoy this sort of pace, but it worked marvelously in this book. So, kudos to Ms. Haas for that. The storytelling created multiple layers that induced more suspense into it. The slow delivered details that Haas delivered in some chapters also build up the excitement, discomfort, and horror (in the best possible way, come on, we’re talking about mystery book here).

I need to stop, or I’m gonna blurted some spoilers to you, and then I will hate myself because it will ruin the book for you. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a mystery book that is unsettling in the best possible way, make your heart racing, challenge you psychologically, and fill your mind with so many speculations that you’re not sure what is the truth anymore, this book might be your cup of tea. I highly recommended this wonderful book, this book needs more love. This is definitely one of my favorite mystery book this year, I’m so glad that I’ve found it!
